Travelers Aid Dental Clinic
Who We Are
The Travelers Aid of RI's Dental Project was started in 1992 through support
from the Governor's office and through generous support from the RI
dental community. Today, the Dental Project remains the only free standing
facility providing quality dental care to RI's homeless population.
A nurse coordinator, dental hygienist, and five volunteer dentists from the community
staff the Dental Project.

The patient treatment room is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology
to treat Rhode Island's under-served community.
We are supported through funds from the Bureau of Primary Health Care, 330h Health
Care for the Homeless Program. When the dental clinic began in 1992,
there were approximately 389 patient encounters. In 1999 the project
served 389 individuals, generating 1300 patient encounters.
What We Do
The Travelers Aid Dental Clinic provides free care to homeless adults and
adolescents living on the streets, in shelters, or in transitional
living programs. Medicaid is also accepted.
Some of the services offered are: oral health and cancer screening, diagnosis,
cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, oral health education
and referral for specialty care. In addition, all patients of the dental
clinic are able to access other services such as medical care,
mental
health, and social services, through their individual case manager.
We are always in need of donations, supplies, and especially more dentist volunteers.
Volunteers may work one day a month to provide services to our patients. |
