Older adult dental patients are a unique, heterogeneous group of individuals, often presenting with complex medical and cognitive conditions. Providing care to older adults can be easily facilitated with appropriate knowledge and skills. Key topics will include approaches to optimally address age-related physical changes, recognizing and working with those with cognitive impairments, and ensuring good quality care to older adults.

The participant will be able to:

  • Recognize easy techniques to improve the outcome of an older adult's dental visit.
  • Identify the impact of age-related physical and cognitive changes to older adults' perception of oral health.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of cognitive loss.
  • Understand management and treatment modalities when treating adults with cognitive changes.
  • Recognize approaches to ensure improved oral health to future elderly dental patients.
