Do You Snore?If
the answer is yes, you have been teased, and the object of jokes. Yet snoring is not
always a laughing matter. It can effect your health and may even be a symptom of a
more serious medical condition called obstructive sleep apnea.
Does
Everyone Snore?
Many healthy people snore once in awhile. Some people, though, snore most
of the time. Heavy snorers are usually overweight and males. And the older they get,
the more they snore.
What Are Some Of These Physical Conditions?
 |
Enlarged tonsils and adenoids
|
 |
Stuffy nose |
 |
A Deviated Septum, polyps, or cysts in the nose |
 |
Gland ailments |
 |
A large uvula |
 |
Weak muscles in the soft palate |
 |
Obesity |
What
Causes Snoring?

The airway in the back of the throat and nose become constricted
because of certain medical conditions. The constricting(or tightening) causes the
structures of the airway to vibrate and they make a rattling sound.

What if I Only Snore Once In Awhile?
Changes in lifestyle may help.
Sleep on your side instead of your
back
Raise
the head of the bed
Don't
smoke
Don't
eat heavy meals within 5 hours of going to bed
Don't
drink alcohol within 3 hours of going to bed
Tone
muscles and try to lose weight
Don't
take antihistimines, sleeping pills or tranquilizers before going to bed
Is There Any Treatment for Snoring?
Yes, but a thorough examination should be performed to find the reason(s) you
snore and to choose the best treatment. For some people the best treatment is laser
surgery to reshape the soft palate and open the airway to allow better breathing
while you sleep. Your doctor performs the surgery in his office during several visits.
